I have a love for the outdoors and skiing. I wanted to improve my current avalanche shovel that I carry in backpack. I looked to improved the usefulness of the tool by adding an attachment.
I decided a 3D printed Ice Axe would allow me to use the handle in combination with and axe head while hiking along ridgelines. To start this project I utilized Polyscan which allowed me to created a 3D model of shovel handle.
Currently I am in the process of creating the axe head. I am prototyping using the Bambu Labs X1C to create PLA models to test the designs tolerances. Once I can confirm that the axe head attaches correctly I will print the final model out of a carbon fiber reinforced plastic filament. I then can move onto strength testing.
